Position Purpose: Pharmacy Interns assist the pharmacist in assuring timely and accurate provision of medications to patients. Routine intern functions are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. These functions may include unit dose dispensing, intravenous admixing, inventory control, record keeping and billing, and the extensive use of equipment and automated technology. Based on ability, experience, and performance, the Pharmacy Intern may perform increasingly clinical activities of the pharmacy, under direct supervision of a pharmacist. What we are looking for: Education: Enrolled and in good standing at an accredited College of Pharmacy program Licensure / Certification: Current licensure as a Pharmacy Intern with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy Experience: Previous hospital pharmacy and/or pharmacy intern experience is preferred Effective communication skills and appropriate attention to detail Ability to follow procedures and accept increasing levels of responsibilities commensurate with knowledge and skill attainment What you will do: Support pharmacists by performing technical and professional tasks involved in the preparation, dispensing, record keeping, counseling, and delivery of medications following proper aseptic technique, accurate calculations, proper documentation, and appropriate use of clinical resources. Prepare intravenous admixtures and other sterile products, including chemotherapy, using proper aseptic technique and adhering to safety and regulatory standards. Compound non-sterile medications, such as ointments, creams, and oral liquids, using accurate calculations and proper compounding techniques. Assist pharmacists in filling medication orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with department policies and regulatory requirements. Prepare and label sterile products, maintaining complete and accurate packaging and preparation records in accordance with department policies and state and federal laws. Assist the pharmacists in providing drug information to patients and health care professionals, including guidance on appropriate use, methods of administration, and medication precautions. Restock and maintain automated dispensing cabinets, ensuring medication availability and proper inventory rotation. Perform clinical duties under direct supervision of a pharmacist, including medication reconciliation, adverse drug event reviews, renal dosing, medication utilization reviews, patient rounds with physicians, presentations for education purposes, and other clinical duties as directed. Assist with inventory management, including communicating purchasing needs, removing expired or compromised medications, maintaining perpetual inventories, and processing non-formulary requests.
