UPMC Soldiers & Sailors is looking for a motivated Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Assistant to join our inpatient team! The Assistant/Technician rotates through three primary shifts: 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m., 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and 8:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Holidays are distributed evenly among the team, and technicians typically work every fifth weekend. General Duties Maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment. Ensure safe and secure storage of all medications in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations. Comply with Federal and State laws (e.g., HIPAA), OSHA regulations, and PBM contracting requirements (e.g., FWA and CMS). Maintain all required documentation, including: Eye wash logs, Refrigerator logs, Perpetual inventory logs. Participate in departmental quality improvement activities to enhance pharmaceutical care. Use computer systems to process and maintain patient information and pharmacy records. Finalize sales using the cash register and follow proper cash handling procedures. Audit and maintain accurate records for controlled substances, ensuring compliance with all regulations. Procure and maintain adequate inventory levels in: Pharmacy medication stock rooms, Automated medication carousels, Automated dispensing machines. Provide and receive information via phone, in person, or in writing to hospital personnel, patients, and visitors. Refer drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists. Maintain and update: Automated medication stations, Unit and department stock, Emergency boxes, Crash carts Filling Duties Work in the Sterile Product area preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs (e.g., chemotherapy) using proper aseptic technique. Assist in filling medication orders through correct labeling, counting, and stocking practices. Initial and date products as required. Prepare oral and injectable medications (including IV admixtures and TPN) for the correct patient at the appropriate time using proper technique. Distribution Duties Develop and maintain positive and productive service relationships during medication distribution. Participate in the distribution of medications, including: Medication cassettes, Emergency medication carts, Delivery of controlled substances per policy and regulations, Retrieve discontinued medications and return/credit them to the appropriate pharmacy area. Investigational Duties Assist in the procurement, accountability, storage, preparation, and distribution of investigational and study drugs.
