Carilion's flagship hospital, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, is a 763-bed academic medical center, level I trauma center, tertiary/quaternary referral center, and Certified Primary Stroke center that has consistently been ranked by US News as a Best Hospital in the state of Virginia. It is also affiliated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and has numerous post-graduate training programs, including multiple medical and surgical residencies and fellowships. Clinical Staff I midnight pharmacists are a core group of clinical pharmacists who support overnight pharmacy operations, providing services in our central pharmacy, admixture center, and cardiovascular tower satellite pharmacy, as well as clinical pharmacy services for pharmacokinetic consults, code coverage, and queries from providers and nursing staff. With the current main pharmacy and the future opening of Crystal Springs Tower satellite pharmacy, a total of five pharmacists will focus on operations, with a sixth clinical pharmacist providing overlapping support until midnight. An additional ED clinical pharmacist staffs within the Emergency Department and provides backup coverage to the main pharmacy, when necessary. A team of eight technicians will work alongside pharmacists to provide pharmacy services overnight. Pharmacists are responsible for addressing a variety of pharmacokinetic medication needs and will have autonomy through use of multiple P&T approved pharmacy protocols. Midnight pharmacists will work a 7 on/7 off schedule and must work holidays as they fall on the schedule. CRMH also has a pharmacy residency program comprised of 13 residents, including seven PGY1s, and six PGY2s in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Emergency Medicine, and Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership. Clinical Staff I pharmacists can assist with precepting residents on a midnight rotation, as well as have the opportunity to participate in other resident learning experiences. Various other clinical experiences such as committee participation, process improvement, and research are available. Qualified candidates must be a graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and must possess a current Virginia pharmacist license or be eligible for licensure. An ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is preferred. Applicants must possess excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills, as well as demonstrate advanced skills in critical thinking and analysis. Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision. 7-on/7-off midnight rotation working Monday to Sunday rotation (2100 to 0730). Rotation includes every other weekend and holidays that fall within the rotation. Prior acute care experience not mandatory but preferred. Position includes central pharmacy dispensing, sterile compounded products (admixture), clinical consults and therapeutic drug monitoring.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a College of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
  • License to practice Pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Virginia required within 90 days of hire.
  • Must possess good leadership, communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills.
  • Work requires knowledge of general office equipment and procedures including computer and keyboarding skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Pharmacy Practice Residency or equivalent Hospital experience is preferred
  • An ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is preferred.
  • Prior acute care experience not mandatory but preferred.
