The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts. The Mount Rogers Health District is seeking a Public Health Nurse Supervisor to provide leadership, direction, and oversight for a multidisciplinary public health team serving Wythe County, Bland County, and Smyth County. This position provides full line supervision for a variety of public health nursing and support roles, including training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions. In addition to supervisory responsibilities, the Nurse Supervisor also provides direct nursing services by independently delivering professional nursing care in clinics, homes, and schools. Duties include conducting nursing assessments, performing basic lab tests and measurements, developing and implementing patient care plans, administering medications, and providing case management. This role requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with state code. This position may be based at the Wythe County Health Department, the Bland County Health Department, or the Smyth County Health Department. The selected candidate will support and oversee operations across all three locations and is expected to spend time in each office every week to ensure consistent service delivery, maintain team communication, and provide hands‑on guidance to staff. The Virginia Department of Health offers 13 state paid holidays (additional days or hours maybe granted by the Governor), medical, dental, vision and life insurance, retirement plans (including 401a Cash Match and 457 Deferred Compensation Plan) as well as sick, family/personal, and annual leave. VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year's seasonal influenza vaccination.
