About The Position

The Permit Technician will perform a variety of technical work involved in the acceptance, review, processing and issuance of all types of permits and licenses issued by the City.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two (2) years of customer service experience
  • Must obtain International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician certification within one (1) year of hire

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in efficiently and accurately processing building permit applications, reviewing related documentation and issuing related permits.
  • Assist customer with using the on-line Dynamic Portal for submitting permit applications, and scheduling inspections, creating records and maintain field inspection lists.
  • Provide and meet the needs of customers by assisting and interacting directly with project sponsors, permit expediters, contractors, the general public and other department representatives.
  • Performing routing and accurate data entries into various computer systems.
  • Receiving a variety of routing problems and complaints and direct them to appropriate division and staff.
  • Assist in the use of fee schedules, calculating, collecting, recording, and balancing permit related monetary transactions.
  • Provide information to contractors, property owners, development professionals, and the general public regarding the interpretation and application of City policies and procedures and licensing requirements.
  • Compile and maintain various permit related documents and data.
  • Provide backup support to the phone center as needed.
  • Ensure proper electronic filing of related documents for permanent record are secured in Infor and assist customers with request for information.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
