Franklin County Medical Center (FCMC) is a non-profit critical access hospital with a vision to be the premier healthcare provider and facility of choice for the community. It features 20 acute care beds, 35 nursing facility beds, three operating rooms, a procedure room, and advanced technology for surgical patients. Perioperative Nurses are crucial to the surgical department's success, primarily by preparing for and assisting with the recovery of same-day surgeries.

Requirements

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Idaho
  • Current BLS required; ACLS and PALS required within one year of hire date
  • Working knowledge of healthcare safety, nursing, state and federal regulations, and regulatory processes
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Must be able to work effectively and cooperatively with a team and individuals
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required
  • Regularly required to move around; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or twist
  • Continuously required to use a keyboard and computer monitor
  • Frequently able to move, push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally required to operate medical equipment
  • Good hearing is necessary for this role
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision
  • Must comply with HIPAA to protect information that is sensitive, proprietary, or confidential
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as situations require to maintain infection control standards set by the facility

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years of surgical experience is preferred
  • One to two years of PACU or acute care nursing is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Preparing patients for surgery by checking them into the electronic medical record (EMR); checking height, weight, and vital signs; directing patient in correct dressing for the procedure; and establishing an IV and administering medications as ordered
  • Escorting the family or others to the designated waiting area during the procedure and retrieving them once the patient is stable and in Recovery Phase II Unit
  • Assisting in the patients’ recovery in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit and the Recovery Phase II Unit
  • Educating the patient and family or others about the procedure and giving post-operation instructions
  • Cleaning the room after each patient has left for surgery in order to prepare for the next patient
  • Completing required documentation for care provided
  • Making post-operation calls within 48 hours to ensure proper recovery
