About The Position

The Perioperative Assistant participates as a member of the surgical team under the direction of a Registered nurse and assists the perioperative care team in various aspects of patient care, including, patient care assistance, care of environment, transportation of patients, supplies/equipment, specimens and blood products. This position does have an On-Call component based on department need. Entity Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA)

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and six months experience in a health care setting preferably.
  • CPR certification within three months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of aseptic technique and familiarity with basic medical terminology and equipment used in the Operating Room preferably.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, restock, and prepare the rooms after procedures.
  • Transports patients and assists with preparing patients for operative procedures.
  • Delivers STAT patient specimens to appropriate areas; obtains blood and blood products from blood bank
  • Retrieves anesthesia records supplies and equipment if needed.
  • Communicate with the charge nurse throughout the day.
  • Directs family and patient questions to physician, anesthesiologists, or nursing staff.
  • Obtain equipment for procedures when necessary.
  • Performs and document daily audits on log sheet e.g fluid, blanket, refrigerator, freezer, OR rooms, Center Core and Storage Room. Promptly reports problems/issues to the nurse in charge.
  • Communicate with the nurse that you are assigned to.
  • Anticipates needed equipment for procedures and ensures that equipment and supplies are readily available to facilitate turnover and timely starts.
  • Take call during the weekend as scheduled and holidays.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as required
