About The Position

Are you passionate about the performing arts? Do you enjoy working behind the scenes at a musical, dance, or theatrical performance? The John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts complex in Sheboygan, WI, is seeking a Performing Arts Intern to join our dynamic Public Programs team for our exciting Summer 2026. In this hands-on role, you will assist with the planning, promoting, and implementation of our summer performing arts events. This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience in how a cultural institution brings live performances to its community.

Requirements

  • A current undergraduate or graduate student (or recent graduate) in arts administration, performing arts (dance, music, theatre), communications, or a related field
  • Able to communicate effectively and comfortably with many constituencies, including: coworkers, Arts Center patrons, agents, and performing artists.
  • A strong written and verbal communicator; organized and adaptable
  • Experienced providing excellent customer service, particularly in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • You have had some prior experience and interest in event promotion, logistics, and/or planning in the performing arts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, marketing, and execution of our 10-week outdoor concert series
  • Assist in the planning and marketing for Wayside Days and fall performance residencies.
  • Develop auxiliary programming/outreach opportunities for artists to work with the public before or after performances
  • Collaborate with Arts Center staff, local/regional businesses, agents, and performers to book transportation, lodging, hospitality, etc.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Public Programs team as needed
