About The Position

We're building something different at Rillet — and we need someone who wants to build the people function to match. This isn't a traditional HR role, and we're not looking for a traditional HR person. We want someone who finds legacy process exhausting, thinks AI should be doing the manual work, and wants to own the full people operations function at a company scaling from 85 to 200+ employees in the next 12 months. You'll be in the weeds and in the room. Running point on immigration cases, benefits, payroll, and compliance one hour — advising leadership on how we scale our culture without diluting it the next. If you've ever looked at a bloated HR process and thought I could rebuild this in a week and make it ten times better, you'll feel at home here. We're looking for teammates who value in-person collaboration and are within commutable distance of our NYC (or willing to relocate). Team members are required to work in-office Tuesdays and Thursdays, plus one additional flexible in-office day. Certain roles may require additional in-office time based on function.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in people ops or HR operations at a fast-growing startup, where building and running happened simultaneously
  • You have a few areas where you go genuinely deep, the self-awareness to know your gaps, and the drive to own what's in front of you regardless
  • You communicate clearly across levels — equally comfortable presenting a compliance framework to leadership and walking a new hire through their first week
  • High ownership, low ego. You get things across the finish line yourself when needed, and you don't wait for perfect conditions to start

Responsibilities

  • The full people ops backbone: onboarding, offboarding, payroll, immigration, benefits, compliance, and everything that keeps a fast-growing team running without friction
  • Our HRIS and people tech stack — not just administering it, but actively building workflows, automations, and reporting that make the function run lean
  • An AI-first approach to operations, identifying where smart tooling eliminates manual work and genuinely improves how our team experiences Rillet
  • A culture scaling strategy — partnering with leadership to preserve and amplify what makes Rillet unique as we grow, rather than letting growth flatten it
  • Helping manage workplace-related topics that come up in our offices day-to-day, and playing an active role in building out and scaling our NYC and SF office presence as we grow
