Substance Use Disorder Services (SUD) provides structured individual and group addiction activities and are provided at an outpatient program designed to assist adult a time-limited, multi-faceted approach treatment service for adults to begin recovery and learn skills for recovery maintenance. These services are provided during day and evening hours to enable beneficiaries to maintain residence in their community, continue to work or go to school, and to be a part of their family life. The role of the SUD Peer Support Specialist is to serve those individuals with SUD, relating their own life experiences and who have been trained and certified to help others with these conditions, as well as identifying and achieving specific life and recovery goals.

Requirements

  • NC Peer Support Specialist certification
  • One (1) year of professional adult substance use work experience
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills. High level proficiency in Microsoft Office- MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to perform tasks on the computer including working with Microsoft 360, Excel, Word and other basic programs.
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance coverage and reliable transportation
  • Pass criminal background check and other regulatory checks
  • Provide proof of your education

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and consultation to the individual receiving SUD services to promote recovery, self-advocacy, and self-direction
  • Promote wellness management strategies, which include delivering manualized interventions (e.g. Wellness Recovery Action Planning or Illness Management and Recovery)
  • Serve as an active member of the SUD team, equivalent to other team members, which includes facilitating the Person Centered Plan process for individuals assigned to him or her
  • Assist with planning for group sessions; lead group sessions
  • Give input in the assessment of consumer risk and develop safety plans
  • Assist with monitoring results of biochemical assays and develop appropriate intervention for positive drug screens
