About The Position

Peer Navigator Position Summary Responsible for serving clients with substance use disorders in multiple capacities and in multiple environments. This is a second position shift that requires evening shifts. Principal Responsibilities Aid peers in understanding recovery, as well as identify and achieve their own recovery needs, wants, and goals. Provide information and opportunities for peers to direct their own recovery and advocacy process through individualized recovery plans. Caseload management including all necessary documentation and timely reports. Communicate with care team to build a rapport and coordinate care. Support clients in developing and maintaining a support network in the recovery community, building life skills, and making linkages within other community support agencies. Support and assist clients in daily decision making and resolution of minor problems. Engage clients in developing healthy relationships through social activities. Participate in community groups to advocate for client needs, leading recovery dialogs / self-help sessions with clients. Assist clients with identifying and effectively responding to or avoiding identified precursors or triggers that result in function impairments, and in developing and utilizing recovery skills. Provide unbiased guidance to clients on pathways to recovery. Provide clients with transportation to appointments, meetings, community support meetings, etc., as needed. Establish and maintain clear boundaries with clients. Adhere to all organizational and departmental policies and procedures, including compliance with all behavioral, ethical, and client boundary expectations. Maintain client records according to the organization’s policies and procedures. Maintain the organization, Ohio MHAS, and CARF required training. Maintain license or registration appropriate to profession and appropriate to job requirement, including appropriate amount of continuing education at all times of employment. Maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of : Area resources that may aid clients in on-going recovery.
  • Safety rules and procedures, the organization’s policies and procedures, and de-escalation techniques for individuals who may be frustrated or exalted.
  • Working knowledge of different pathways to recovery and social systems.
  • Abilities : Multitask, work independently with minimal supervision, and self-schedule.
  • Communicate information clearly, read, write, speak, and understand.
  • Recognize unusual or threatening conditions related to persons with disabilities.
  • Drive clients to appointments.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds, standing, bending, stooping, sitting, walking, reaching above and below shoulder, repetitive use of hands to operate office equipment.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Demonstrated competencies working with substance abuse and chemically dependent populations.
  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Experience in working with Microsoft Office products, including email.
  • Experience with using and navigating Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other industry related types of applications.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Valid Driver’s License, reliable transportation, acceptable automobile insurance coverage, and driving record.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Certified Peer Recovery Supporter ( Required )

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience working with chemically dependent clients in various settings, preferred.
