About The Position

The MRSS Peer Supporter fosters collaborative partnerships with youth, families, and the service system during times of crisis. Using lived experience, the Peer Supporter offers non-clinical support, advocacy, and coaching to help families explore options and return to emotional and physical wellness. This role emphasizes building trust, promoting family voice and choice, and supporting transitions to appropriate services.

Requirements

  • Certified Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter (via 40-hour OhioMHAS training and online modules).
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Lived experience relevant to the role and ability to use personal recovery journey purposefully.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage diverse individuals in crisis, remain calm under pressure, and make sound judgments.
  • Strong documentation and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, proof of insurance, or ability to meet job travel requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide initial and follow-up support to youth and families experiencing crisis, within the scope of the OhioMHAS Peer Recovery Supporter role.
  • Establish a trusting relationship with families to clarify family-defined goals and ensure the care plan reflects their values and needs.
  • Link families to natural community resources and cultural supports.
  • Provide non-clinical interventions, coaching, and modeling to assist families.
  • Support transitions to services including wraparound, evidence-based treatment, community-based supports, and natural resources.
  • Collaborate on transition planning to connect youth and families to appropriate levels of care.
  • Coordinate with MRSS team members to ensure service integration and continuity.
  • Participate in CANS screenings as needed and monitor changes in youth and family status.
  • Assist families in accessing transportation and overcoming care barriers.
  • Consult with families to identify needs and support plan development.
  • Complete required documentation and outcomes data collection in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and quality improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with the MRSS team to achieve family and program goals.
  • Meet expected productivity requirements.
  • Abide by all agency and Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter ethical standards and policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
