About The Position

The Peer Recovery Coach uses a recovery-oriented approach that emphasizes hope, respect, self-determination, and empowerment. This position provides peer support, personal assistance, and education on community resources to support individuals in recovery from mental health and substance use disorders. The Peer Recovery Coach supports individuals with co-occurring medical, mental health, and/or substance use conditions, with a particular focus on those experiencing mild to moderate behavioral health concerns. The position also assists the Behavioral health program with administrative and program support functions including grant-related activities, data collection, and reporting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certified Peer Recovery Mentor (CPRM) or other Peer Support Certification
  • Lived experience with recovery from a mental health condition and/or substance use disorder and at least two years of sustained recovery.
  • Experience navigating behavioral health, recovery support systems, or community resources.
  • Able to demonstrate personal knowledge and experience with Native American populations
  • Ability to relate effectively with staff, clients, and members of the professional community
  • Excellent public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and electronic record systems
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, patience, and professionalism
  • Flexible, organized, and able to work independently
  • Ability to correspond with individuals throughout all levels of government and intergovernmental organizations
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Will require non-traditional hours including working evenings, weekends and holidays to meet program needs and deadlines
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be insurable
  • Ability and willingness to travel for meetings and continuing education is required for this position
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing peer support, mentoring, advocacy, or community outreach preferred.
  • Experience working with Native American populations preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a personal guide or mentor, helping individuals overcome personal and environmental obstacles in their recovery journey
  • Meet with individuals to discuss behavioral health, recovery, and wellness goals
  • Share personal recovery experiences in a positive and supportive manner through coaching, role modeling, and mentoring.
  • Assist individuals in developing personal wellness and recovery plans
  • Provide education on available community resource and support services
  • Support individuals in navigating and accessing community-based services
  • Assist with scheduling medical or behavioral health appointments when needed
  • Facilitate or coordinate peer support groups and recovery-oriented programming as appropriate
  • Provide support to individuals during transitions in care, including hospital discharge or recovery placements
  • Transport or accompany individuals to recovery support meetings, medical appointments, or other recovery-related services when appropriate
  • Accurately document services provided in the electronic health record
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation or services and program activities
  • Assist with data collection, tracking, and reporting requirements for Behavioral Health programs and grants.
  • Support preparation of grant reports, program updates, and other required documentation for internal leadership and funding agencies
  • Assist with monitoring program outcomes and maintaining records required for grant compliance
  • Communicate with integrated team regarding participant engagement and recovery progress
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, conferences, as well as self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities
  • Participating on committees, special projects, and work groups as needed
