About The Position

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Peer Outreach Worker will work with the LMHC and Retention Specialist to conduct culturally sensitive, alternative venue outreach to engage young men of color who have sex with men (YMCSM) and young people of transgender experience. Engagement will be completed in person, on the phone and through the internet. This position will also provide basic support and assistance to the Retention Specialist. Requirements

  • GED or bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
  • The ideal candidate must demonstrate sensitivity to LGBTQ youth, substance users, the mentally ill, and the homeless.
  • Must be familiar with internet/social media sites utilized by YMCSM and transgender women of color, as well as venues for outreach and engagement, including organizations that serve the target population.
  • In addition, the candidate should have experience working with individuals that are HIV positive or negative.
  • The Peer Outreach Worker should demonstrate good communication skills and at least a 1 year history of advocacy experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collects GPRA biopsychosocial assessment data.
  • Participates in outreach/field events as scheduled.
  • Provide follow up interventions including phone calls and escorts to participants in need of case management and supportive services.
  • Maintain up to date client records in accordance with grant and HIPPA protocols.
  • Promote SAMHSA II program through various outlets including internet/social media, in-reach and out-reach activities.
  • Attends and participates in continuing educational programs, seminars, etc., designated to maintain professional competence.
  • Facilitate seeking safety psychoeducational groups.
