Under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager, the Pediatric Trauma Coordinator serves as both a clinical expert and a key care coordinator for the pediatric trauma service. Requirements

  • Graduate of a Nursing Program, RN required.
  • BSN or Bachelor’s degree required in related field with direct and applicable work experience.
  • Minimum of three years of Pediatric, Emergency, Critical care or relevant experience.
  • Current RN license in Iowa.
  • Current in TNCC, ACLS and PALS or able to achieve within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a role model for expert clinical nursing through advanced knowledge of pediatric trauma nursing.
  • Demonstrated excellence and input during trauma resuscitations facilitating high quality and efficient patient care delivery.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, review and revision of pediatric trauma policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Identifies opportunities for performance improvement through patient rounds, PI filter monitoring, case reviews and discussions with patients, families and staff.
  • Conducts concurrent and retrospective reviews of medical records and the trauma registry to evaluate the performance of the trauma program.
  • Investigates, evaluates, documents and follow-up on problems to ensure capture and loop closure.
  • Participates in Trauma Committee and Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Committee.
  • Provides follow-up to referring entities, hospitals, and EMS providers to give feedback regarding trauma delivery of care.
  • Works with Trauma Program Manager in developing and analyzing data for administrative and clinical decision making, as well as regulatory requirements.
  • Assists in coordinating implementation of data collection processes: providing analysis, summary, research and benchmarking (such as TQIP and Pediatric TQIP).
  • Analyzes trauma data to provide both routine and ad hoc reports of trauma statistics and QI filters, used for: Monthly performance improvement meeting (Trauma Morbidity & Mortality) Routine volume reporting
  • Participates in the conversion, upload, and transfer of trauma registry data to other designated database systems, including local, state, and national systems.
  • Assists in preparing reports in preparation for the ACS Trauma Center Re-Verification survey, and participates in the survey, as required by the ACS.
  • Assists in the identification of patient and staff educational needs and works cooperatively with all departments to coordinate educational opportunities to meet those needs.
  • Provides continuing education re: care of the pediatric trauma patient.
  • Participates in teaching TNCC.
  • Actively participates in community and statewide trauma education and prevention programs for the general public.
  • Active role in planning annual Pediatric Trauma Conference.
