As a Pediatric Pulmonary Function Technician, you will work alongside caregivers to provide diagnostic evaluation of pulmonary function in patients with respiratory insufficiencies. The ideal Technician should have excellent people skills and adjust their own style and approach as necessary in integrations with the pediatric population. A caregiver in this position works PRN (variable hours) 7:30am—4:00pm or 6:30am—4:30pm. Weekends and holidays are required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Associates Degree Program from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) credentialed by the NBRC
  • Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) License
  • AHA BLS Healthcare Provider
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to administer six minute walk tests at a pace of at least 3.0 mph (average walking speed)
  • Ability to move K cylinders onto dollies
  • Ability to change gas cylinder regulators with a wrench and ability to lift boxes up to 25 pounds in weight
  • Ability to perform pulmonary function tests for demonstration purposes and for the collection of biological control data for QC purposes
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors’ Degree
  • One year of patient care experience
  • 1-2 years of Pulmonary Function Technologist experience
  • Familiar with ATS/ERS standards for testing
  • Can identify sub-optimal results and be able to provide coaching and instruction to obtain the best quality testing possible
  • Experience with interactions with the pediatric population

Responsibilities

  • Perform and analyze quality control data
  • Perform advanced invasive or noninvasive protocols
  • Design and perform investigatory protocols
  • Provide educational in-services to staff, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants
  • Manage the Pulmonary Function Laboratory, including scheduling, maintaining supplies used for testing, and ordering supplies
