About The Position

The Pediatric Oncology Nurse II serves as the primary care coordinator for interdisciplinary patient care activities, managing patients throughout their continuum of care at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This role is responsible and accountable for delivering high-quality patient care by implementing the nursing process, which includes assessing patient needs (physical, psychosocial, educational), designing a collaborative care plan, implementing the plan with appropriate task delegation, coordinating team efforts, and evaluating patient progress towards outcomes. The nurse also acts as a patient/family advocate, actively seeking opportunities to communicate and coordinate patient care activities across the continuum in collaboration with other members of the Health Care Team.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • BSN required
  • Completion of 18 months of clinical nursing experience
  • St. Jude or other RN experience required
  • Intermediate pediatric assessment, critical thinking, and pain assessment skills
  • Some experience in pediatric or oncology nursing
  • Working knowledge of research protocols
  • Strong knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on the assigned unit
  • Strong knowledge of the principles of growth and development for all ages served
  • Strong ability to assess and interpret age specific data about the patient’s status
  • Strong clinical nursing, interpersonal, and patient education skills
  • Proven performance in earlier role
  • Must possess a current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non-Compact state
  • Must possess a current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS), OR Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS, preferred as applicable
  • Certified Pediatric Hematology Oncology Nurse (CPHON) preferred
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred
