About The Position

The Dorian Family Pediatric Center Program Specialist is responsible for developing, coordinating, and evaluating therapeutic, educational, and recreational programming that supports pediatric patients and their families. This role enhances the Center’s mission by fostering community engagement, emotional support, and holistic care through inclusive, high-quality experiences.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable working with children and families experiencing serious illness, grief, or end-of-life challenges
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across teams and disciplines
  • Compassionate, creative, and family-centered approach
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices
  • Ability to facilitate support groups or therapeutic activities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and basic data tracking tools
  • Comfortable speaking publicly and representing the organization externally
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in program coordination, event planning, or community engagement, preferably in a pediatric, hospice, palliative, or healthcare setting
  • Experience in developing partnerships with community organizations and professionals
  • Must have medical clearance for communicable diseases before direct patient contact.
  • Current immunizations including but not limited to TB, Hepatitis, and Flu.
  • Any combination of education and/or experience that would provide the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be acceptable.
  • Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree in social work, child development, human services, recreational therapy, public health, education, or a related field (master’s preferred)

Nice To Haves

  • LCSW preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the community (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement meaningful programs, events, and activities tailored to the needs of pediatric patients and their families
  • Collaborate with internal team members to plan and deliver engaging, therapeutic programming
  • Utilize volunteers to support and enhance all programming, events, and daily activities
  • Monitor and track attendance and participation; assess program effectiveness and report outcomes
  • Represent the Dorion Family Pediatric Center in the community to promote awareness and engagement
  • Develop and facilitate tours of the Center for schools and community groups
  • Facilitate educational opportunities and outreach initiatives for the broader community
  • Collaborate with the Foundation and other stakeholders to support programmatic and event-related initiatives
  • Partner with Community Hospice Bereavement Services to co-create a model for family support groups that address grief, loss, and healing
  • Identify and develop new programming opportunities, including but not limited to: Peer and family support groups Therapeutic yoga for children and families Group music therapy sessions and musical enrichment Coordination with external professionals, venues, or community organizations to provide high-quality, impactful experiences
