We are the only emergency department on the North Shore staffed 24/7 with board certified pediatricians and pediatric nurses. We provide advanced pediatric emergency care while also providing an “ouchless” experience for our youngest patients. We do this through non-invasive pain relief techniques that reduce anxiety and discomfort for children and their families. We also offer access to a wide range of pediatric specialists. Our Pediatric Emergency department is located inside our Emergency Department at 3 Dove Avenue in Salem, MA. We have a dedicated waiting room for our youngest patients, as well as dedicated pediatric patient bays. Our NPs work autonomously up to the top of their licensure and collaborate with physicians as needed to ensure high quality, safe and timely care for patients with various chief complaints. The NP team manages very sick patients, handles various high acuity procedures, and performs medical screening examinations in order to stabilize and treat those seeking services from the Emergency Room. We are looking for a seasoned, Per Diem Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for as-need, evening shift coverage. The shifts are 10 hours in duration, 1:00 PM-11:00 PM. There is no set weekend or holiday requirement, but we do ask for some flexibility. This is a busy community ED serving patients from birth through 21 years of age. Job Summary The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for assessing and managing various patient populations, including those with medical and/or surgical conditions, as well as providing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, developing appropriate plans of care, and conducting ongoing evaluations. May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners. Does this position require Patient Care? Yes

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Nursing required
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse [APRN-NP - State License] - Generic - HR Only required
  • 2 years of licensed nurse practitioner experience
  • 1-2 years required
  • BLS/PALS certification required
  • 3+ years of Pediatric experience in an emergency department or urgent care environment required
  • Successful candidates should have experience with pediatric wound repair/suturing, treatment of orthopedic injuries, incision and drainage, as well as prior experience with pediatric mental health

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric nurse practitioner board certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care, counseling, and education to a designated patient population in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural settings.
  • Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
  • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
  • Consistently provides high-quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
