Performs all required ultrasound and clinical evaluations at a technical level requiring limited supervision. Maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field of adult and pediatric cardiac disease and new techniques as they evolve. Performs clinical assessments and diagnostic cardiac ultrasound examinations. Utilizes cognitive sonographic skills to identify and record appropriate anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic images. Responsible for the safety, mental, and physical comfort of the patient while in the sonographer's care. Assists with the maintenance of laboratory accreditation. Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all customers (i.e. patients, co-workers, physicians, peers, etc.). Performs procedures at the hospital and at outreach mobile sites. Outreach mobile requires driving and/or flying with our without physicians. Overnight stays as necessary. Performs echocardiography tests and procedures in accordance with the American Society of Echocardiography standards. Trains and orientates new employees and/or sonography students. Thoroughly understands the operation of the ultrasound machine and utilizes new sonographic technologies. Interacts professionally and effectively with fellow healthcare professionals.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Cardiovascular Technology or equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working independently in adult echocardiography is required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Adult Echocardiography (RDCS AE) certification is required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Pediatric Echocardiography (RDCS PE) registry certified or must be obtained within 12 months of training with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) is required.
  • If working in North Dakota and performing medical imaging or radiation therapy procedures, licensure through the North Dakota Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (NDMIRT) Board is required.

Responsibilities

  • Take call at the hospital on a rotational basis- this includes weeknights, weekends ,and holidays. This would include pediatrics and adult echo . This may include more than 1 night a week, 1 weekend a month, and 1 holiday per year.
  • Rotate to hospital from clinic to perform echoes on adult and pediatric patients as needed and assigned. Adult echoes may be inpatient or outpatient .May be scheduled in adult echo department as needed.
  • Perform echoes on a routine basis at the pediatric echo clinic
  • Need to request vacation through the supervisor for approval for all absences. Please note time may not be approved , even when the provider is out of the office.
  • Be trained into fetal echo and given a year to complete after the process of training begins.
  • Split duties at the pediatric clinic with other staff.
  • May travel to outreach sights if needed.
  • May have other duties as assigned to help the team, department, and supervisor.
