About The Position

The Physical Education and Driver’s Education Teacher is responsible for promoting student health, physical fitness, safe driving practices, and overall wellness. This position provides standards-based instruction in physical education and classroom/behind-the-wheel driver education, helping students develop lifelong healthy habits and responsible driving skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, or related field
  • Valid state teaching certification in Physical Education
  • State-approved Driver’s Education Instructor certification (if required)
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Strong classroom and behavior management skills
  • Knowledge of health, fitness, and driver safety regulations
  • Ability to motivate and engage students physically and academically
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational and record-keeping skills
  • Commitment to student safety and well-being

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching middle or high school students
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Experience coaching or sponsoring extracurricular activities

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging physical education lessons aligned with state standards
  • Teach skills in fitness, team sports, individual sports, and recreational activities
  • Promote physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles
  • Assess student performance in physical skills, participation, and knowledge
  • Adapt activities to accommodate varying skill levels and physical abilities
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed in gymnasium and outdoor settings
  • Maintain and organize equipment and facilities
  • Provide classroom instruction on traffic laws, defensive driving, and vehicle safety
  • Prepare students for state written and driving examinations
  • Conduct or supervise behind-the-wheel training (if required by position)
  • Teach safe driving techniques, hazard awareness, and responsible decision-making
  • Maintain accurate driving logs and required state documentation
  • Ensure compliance with state and district regulations for driver education programs
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grade records
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress
  • Supervise students during school activities as assigned
  • Participate in professional development and staff meetings
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support student achievement
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment
