Job Summary The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for delivering structured, developmentally appropriate instruction that promotes physical fitness, motor skill acquisition, cooperative learning, and sportsmanship. The teacher upholds and models the mission and Catholic identity of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic School by integrating faith‑based values into all instructional practices and student interactions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in physical education, education, or a related field is preferred.
  • A valid teaching certificate or substitute teaching permit may be required.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is preferred.
  • Experience teaching, coaching, or supervising youth physical activities is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a school setting is beneficial but not required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and motivate students effectively while maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Knowledge of age‑appropriate physical education practices, safety procedures, and instructional strategies.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in working across grade levels and instructional needs.
  • Ability to organize equipment, structure lessons efficiently, and maintain safe activity spaces.
  • Proficiency with basic educational technology and instructional tools.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and commitment to the mission of Catholic education.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver physical education lessons that align with curriculum standards and support student growth in fitness, coordination, and movement skills.
  • Implement lesson plans as provided or design activities that promote physical literacy and healthy living.
  • Model and consistently reinforce Catholic values in all communication, conduct, and expectations.
  • Integrate faith‑based principles, including respect, responsibility, compassion, and perseverance, into daily activities and interactions.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and inclusive learning environment aligned with Catholic teachings.
  • Promote teamwork, cooperation, and positive social behaviors through structured games and activities.
  • Support students’ spiritual, physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Maintain high expectations for student participation, behavior, and achievement.
  • Assess student performance through observation, participation, and skill demonstrations, providing feedback that encourages growth.
  • Ensure the proper use, care, and organization of equipment, supplies, and gym facilities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administration to support schoolwide initiatives, events, and community activities such as field day and wellness programs.
  • Maintain accurate records, adhere to school policies, and communicate effectively with staff and families as needed.
