As a member of the Human Resources Team the Payroll Specialist III is responsible for processing company payrolls, updating and maintaining payroll and HR Records, and providing HR reporting and administrative support. This role ensures compliance with city, state, provincial, local, and federal regulations governing payroll practices. Now is the best time to join Johnstone Supply. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or technical school. At least five years knowledge of and experience with a payroll processing system; experience in human resources helpful; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of full cycle multi-state payroll processes and best practices.
  • Skill in using Excel, including creating pivot tables, sorting, writing functions, formatting, creating charts, and analyzing large data sets.
  • Skill in using the payroll processing system (ADP).
  • Knowledge of basic accounting related to payroll processing, including how payroll interfaces with the General Ledger.
  • Problem-solving skills: listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems.
  • Ability to create and follow standardized procedures.
  • Ability to recognize inconsistencies in information (ability to attend to details).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Nice To Haves

  • Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is preferred, but not required for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain current knowledge of payroll legislation and ensure adherence to applicable laws.
  • Coordinate the setup of state and local tax jurisdictions by applying for tax IDs, updating system configurations, and maintaining accurate tax code assignments for multistate payroll processing.
  • Assures the company bi-weekly payroll is prepared, processed, and delivered in an accurate and timely manner within company policy, procedures, guidelines, as well as within local, state and federal regulations.
  • Runs and reviews payroll and HR Reports, including the Payroll Summary, Statistic Re-cap, Payroll Changes, Wage Garnishment Verification, Registers, Master Controls, and Manual Checks, Bi-Weekly Employee Activity Report, Payroll Changes Report, monthly Turnover Report. Ensures reports are maintained and stakeholder access is provided appropriately.
  • Works with the Finance Department to provide regular and scheduled reporting, including those related to 401(k), PTO Fiscal Year End Accruals, 401(k) Nondiscrimination Testing, EEOC Wage Surveys, Benefit Census, and Total Compensation).
  • Collaborate with external payroll service providers as needed.
