About The Position

The Payroll & Benefits Supervisor is responsible for overseeing accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing and benefits administration for the organization. This role leads day-to-day operations, ensures adherence to federal, state, and local regulations, and partners closely with HR, Finance, and external vendors to deliver a high-quality employee experience while maintaining strong internal controls.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll, tax compliance, and benefits regulations
  • Experience with HRIS/payroll systems (e.g., Paycor knowledge preferred)
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-service mindset
  • 5+ years of payroll and benefits experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead role

Responsibilities

  • Supervise end-to-end payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees across multiple states or entities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Review payroll calculations, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and off-cycle payments
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements
  • Oversee payroll audits, reconciliations, and quarterly/year-end processes (W-2s, 941s, state filings)
  • Partner with Finance on payroll funding, general ledger reconciliations, and reporting
  • Support the Total Rewards Manager with administration of employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, and leave programs
  • Manage benefit enrollments, changes, terminations, and carrier file feeds within the confines of payroll processing
  • Ensure compliance and accurate benefit/payroll coordination with FMLA, STD and state leave programs
  • Supervise, coach, and develop payroll coordinators
  • Establish and document standard operating procedures and internal controls
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, improve accuracy, and enhance employee experience
  • Support HRIS and payroll system updates, implementations, and testing
