About The Position

A premier, family-owned environmental contracting firm founded in 1984 is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll & Benefits Administrator. This is a high-visibility role reporting directly to the Controller and Ownership. The firm has an excellent reputation for stability, boasting a nearly "recession-proof" business model and exceptionally low staff turnover. This position is a primary replacement for a long-tenured employee retiring in April. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to train directly with the outgoing administrator to ensure a seamless transition of responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional payroll experience.
  • Soft Skills: A self-managing professional who takes total ownership of their desk, demonstrates high integrity, and possesses strong interpersonal skills for team collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry Knowledge: Experience with Construction Payroll , Prevailing Wage (Davis-Bacon Act) , or Certified Payroll is highly preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Power-user status in ADP is a significant advantage.
  • Education: Some college coursework is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Full-Cycle Payroll: Process weekly payroll for approximately 40 employees (25 field-based, 15 office-based) using ADP
  • Certified Payroll: Take full ownership of government reporting for state and federal contracts, ensuring absolute compliance with wage and hour laws.
  • Prevailing Wage Compliance: Manage complex wage scales and government reporting requirements inherent in government contracting.
  • Benefits Administration: Act as the internal point of contact for employee benefits, working alongside an external broker to manage enrollments, renewals, and inquiries.
  • Leadership Liaison: Provide independent oversight of the payroll system and interact comfortably with senior leadership and ownership.
