About The Position

We are seeking a Payroll & Benefits Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team at a $1B+ global manufacturing company. This role is responsible for the accounting, reconciliation, and reporting related to U.S. and Canadian hourly and salaried payrolls and employee benefits. This position does not process standard payroll runs—payroll processing is managed by ADP. Instead, the role focuses on payroll-related accounting activities, compliance reporting, and serving as a key accounting partner to Payroll, HR, and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, problem solver, and highly organized professional who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and can work autonomously while collaborating cross-functionally. This is an onsite position located out of Hartsville, SC. This is a progression position and level will be based on candidate experience and business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3–5+ years of accounting experience; payroll accounting experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of payroll-related accounting concepts
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis)
  • Proven ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and solve complex issues
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to see the bigger financial picture
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting both U.S. and Canadian payroll and benefits accounting
  • Experience working with manufacturing or unionized environments
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) or other large ERP systems
  • Familiarity with ADP systems/applications
  • Experience supporting audits and compliance reporting related to payroll and

Responsibilities

  • Record, review, and reconcile payroll and benefit-related journal entries for U.S. and Canadian hourly and salaried employees related to weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payrolls
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations related to payroll, benefits, accrued compensation, taxes, and related liabilities
  • Ensure accurate accounting for wages, salaries, bonuses, incentives, commissions, benefits, taxes, and payroll-related accruals
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes related to payroll and benefits
  • Manage the mapping of payroll elements to the general ledger in payroll provider’s system.
  • Prepare and deliver recurring and ad hoc internal and external payroll and benefits reporting
  • Support compliance requirements related to payroll and benefits, including internal controls and audit requests
  • Assist with external audits, internal audits, and regulatory inquiries by providing documentation and analysis
  • Partner with Payroll, HR, Benefits, and Tax teams to resolve discrepancies and support compliance needs
  • Work with compensation team to establish annual budget guidance for benefit accounting
  • Compile payroll-related data for annual insurance policy renewal
  • Utilize Excel and financial systems to analyze payroll and benefits data
  • Identify process improvement opportunities related to payroll accounting and reporting
  • Review and analyze travel and expenses
  • Support special projects and cross-functional initiatives as needed
