About The Position

The Payroll & Benefits Administrator is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operations of Surf Internet’s payroll and group benefits programs. This position provides excellent customer service to Surf’s employment population, ensures accurate and timely payroll, compliance with federal and state regulations, and provides support regarding compensation and benefits inquiries.

Requirements

  • Minimum Associate's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field required
  • 2-3 years of payroll experience; includes conducting and completing payroll as well as reporting
  • 2-3 years of employee benefits or related benefits administration experience.
  • Customer service-based approach to working with internal employees and external vendors/partners.
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates.
  • Effective planning and priority setting.
  • Ability to manage several tasks of various sizes simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to understand, evaluate and make judgment on proposals (RFPs).
  • Familiarity with benefits contract language.
  • Familiarity with all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, OBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist all Surf Internet employees with questions regarding payroll and/or benefits.
  • Maintain information in the payroll system; information may include employees’ hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and tax withholding, address changes, and other information.
  • Ensure proper processing of payroll in accordance with Surf’s bi-weekly schedule.
  • Work with the Accounting & Finance department to issue, or reissue, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
  • Create and conduct a benefits onboarding process to be held with each new employee in addition to the standard onboarding and orientation.
  • Design and distribute materials for benefits orientations, open enrollment and summary plan descriptions.
  • Provide training and support to group benefits associates, home office associates and the field staff.
  • Ensure benefits enrollments for all new employees are completed correctly.
  • Work with new employees to make corrections as needed prior to benefits becoming effective.
  • Lead the yearly open enrollment process for all employees
  • Research employee benefits plans and vendors to identify those that present the best value.
  • Work with Director of Human Resources and CHRO regarding implementation.
  • Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators.
  • Coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration.
  • Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
  • Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations, including the Affordable Care Act.
  • Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database and update employee payroll records.
  • Assist Finance & Accounting with monthly reconciliation of all benefit premiums.
  • Analyze current benefits, evaluating the use, services, coverage, effectiveness, cost, plan experience and competitive trends in benefits programs, and identify the company's stance.
  • Survey industry trends.
  • Complete benefits surveys and review information obtained from the results.
  • Analyze complex benefits information.
  • Forecast trends and assist with future benefits designs.
  • Develop specific recommendations for review by management.
  • Assist Human Resources leaders with preparing yearly budget for the department.
