About The Position

Cleveland Metroparks is seeking a highly organized and detail‑oriented Payroll Administrator to support the accurate and timely processing of employee payroll. This role ensures payroll records are maintained in compliance with payroll laws, internal policies, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Payroll Administrator also serves as a knowledgeable and confidential resource for employees and managers regarding payroll procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate degree required; bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of payroll administration experience, preferably within an organization that includes unionized employees, is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities will also be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Experience with payroll systems required, experience with ADP Lyric preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to process high volumes of financial data accurately under time constraints.
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with employees, managers, and the public.
  • Sound business acumen, including problem‑solving, decision‑making, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Professional attitude and commitment to high‑quality work.

Responsibilities

  • Administers payroll information to ensure accurate and timely processing, including tax calculations, deductions, and deposits.
  • Audits payroll reports before and after processing to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintains accurate records of sick, vacation, personal, and compensatory time.
  • Calculates termination pay, retroactive adjustments, performance compensation, and other special payments.
  • Reconciles payroll accounts and assists with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Assists in resolving payroll issues and discrepancies with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Provides guidance to managers on timekeeping procedures, payroll deadlines, and policy interpretation.
  • May serve as acting Payroll Manager in the manager’s absence and collaborates closely with other Human Resources staff.
