About The Position

Processes accurate and timely payroll, maintains all payroll records and ensures compliance with all regulations. The role includes account reconciliations, reporting and assisting employees with payroll questions while maintaining strict confidentiality as well as assists the Finance Director with general accounting duties and all aspects of business operations as needed. As a member of the Administration team, assists and serves as a backup to other team members as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting or related field
  • In absence of a degree, experience in a payroll position will suffice depending on experience.
  • Understanding of basic accounting concepts
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal and state regulations governing payroll and benefits
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures within the payroll tax and accounting field
  • Proficient in all standard business software
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to maintain discretion when handling confidential information
  • Ability to work with integrity, discretion and a professional approach
  • Ability to work with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.)
  • Certifications: CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent, and Basic First Aid (required). Training can be provided upon hiring and must be obtained within 60 days. Higher levels of certification are accepted.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent
  • Two or more years related payroll and accounting experience
  • Certification/training for FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certificate) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional)
  • Experience with Paycom payroll software

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll through Paycom, review source documents for accuracy and ensure all payroll reports are filed correctly with appropriate governmental agencies.
  • Maintain records and manage information related to the YMCA retirement fund.
  • Maintain files and storage of payroll records.
  • Assist Finance Director in creating reports and doing analytical work with payroll and accounting data for management and the finance committee of the board of directors.
  • Prepare and make necessary journal entries as assigned by the Finance Director.
  • Assist with month-end accounting reconciliations.
  • Assist Finance Director and auditors in completion of annual audit.
  • Assist the Leadership Team to provide needed information for various audits that may be conducted by outside agencies such as grant funders.
  • Assist department directors by providing historical payroll/accounting information for developing the annual budget.
  • Work as a member of the administration team learning other departmental duties and backing up team members as needed, such as daily deposits and accounts payable.
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.
  • Respond to all staff inquiries expeditiously, within twenty-four business hours, when possible.
