About The Position

The Division of Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. TPM’s Design & Construction (D&C) unit has professional engineering oversight for geometric design elements of NYC roadways, creating and maintaining official pavement marking and concrete island plans, and overseeing the application and refurbishment of NYC’s 250+ million linear feet of pavement markings. The Pavement Markings Quality Control Specialist will conduct audits of pavement marking installations to ensure contract compliance, as well as coordinate quality control checks on contractor invoices to ensure accuracy and completeness. The selected candidate will assist in reporting, analysis, operational tasks, and field work duties as necessary, in relation to quality control for the Pavement Markings Program. The Department of Transportation’s (DOT) mission is to provide for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods in the City of New York and to maintain and enhance the transportation infrastructure crucial to the economic vitality and quality of life of our primary customers, City residents.

Requirements

  • Must be serving permanently in the title, or reachable on the civil service list
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, planning or mathematics or one of the physical sciences; or High school diploma or its educational equivalent and 4 years of full-time experience performing technical work on traffic programs and citywide transportation studies; or Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above
  • New hires must reside in NYC for the first two years of employment

Responsibilities

  • Conduct audits of pavement marking installations to ensure contract compliance
  • Coordinate quality control checks on contractor invoices to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Assist in reporting, analysis, operational tasks, and field work duties as necessary, in relation to quality control for the Pavement Markings Program
  • Conduct specialized inspections and testing of pavement marking installations
  • Collect pavement marking samples for laboratory testing
  • Prepare measurement variance reports
  • Conduct full analysis of variance data
  • Provide recommendations for corrective action
  • Assist with the processing of contractor payment packages
  • Maintain recordkeeping requirements in relational databases

Benefits

  • This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed between the City and DC37
  • New Hire Rate: $57,323 (Less than 2 yrs. City Service)
  • Minimum Incumbent Rate: $65,922 (2 or more yrs. City service)
