About The Position

The PAVE Advocate, Victim Services provides assistance to and advocacy on behalf of SeniorLAW Center clients. Salary range is commensurate with years of experience and SeniorLAW Center’s salary structure: starting salary of $46,500. Requirements

  • B.A. or B.S. or Paralegal Certificate
  • At least two years’ experience in legal services program or law office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Public speaking/training expertise
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and proficient with time management and task prioritization skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office proficiently.
  • Highly professional, organized, energetic, flexible, and culturally sensitive.
  • Excellent writing, organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Interest and ability to work with older people and persons of different backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Victim Service experience or training
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of criminal justice system.

Responsibilities

  • Actively and effectively engage in appropriate outreach activities to the victims of crime and abuse, their families, and friends.
  • Monitor the progress and assist victims of elder abuse and crime through the criminal justice and/or protective services system in Philadelphia county.
  • Screen requests Emergency Fund to help with locks and other security measures for victims of elder abuse and crime.
  • Prepare victims, their families, and their friends for all legal proceedings.
  • Help victims prepare their victim impact statements.
  • Accompany victims to legal proceedings at the Philadelphia Juanita Kidd Stout Center for Criminal Justice (e.g., police interviews, district attorney meetings, preliminary hearings, trials, sentencing, etc.)
  • Educate victims, their families, and their significant others on the content and process of these legal proceedings.
  • Assist victims in the Victim Compensation process.
  • Refer victims, their families, and their friends to other agencies as appropriate.
  • Follow-up with victims, their families, and their friends as appropriate
  • Maintain client records and enter client information into the consumer record management system.
  • Assist in collecting information needed to complete outcomes measurement.
  • Attend staff meetings, appropriate community meetings and required training.
  • Provide crisis counseling and emotional support for victims, including safety planning.
  • Develop and present legal education workshops to older adults to prevent victimization, identify victims and promote self-identification or refer them to needed services.
  • Aid in the development of educational materials and resources for older victims of crime and “best practices” resources for professionals.
  • Aid in planning, organizing, and attending community outreach and tabling events.
  • Assist with community clinics focused on older victims of crime.
  • Coordinate with Director and Communications team to update website, help craft E-News, and develop other communication tools with project-related information.
  • Assist in the creation and updating of various brochures and other forms for use by Victim Services project staff.
  • Assist with coordination of outreach requests for the Victim Services project team.
  • Assist with planning, organizing and presentation of educational workshops to older adults on victim services issues.
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and attending community outreach and tabling events.
  • Identify systemic problems affecting older victims of crime and work with Director, SeniorLAW Center colleagues, and local, statewide, and national partners to develop creative solutions.
  • Participate in scheduled project related meetings.
  • Participate in staff and Legal team meetings.
  • Provide support to other colleagues agency wide as needed
  • Assist with on-boarding staff as needed.
  • Become knowledgeable of and follow all SeniorLAW Center’s personnel and legal policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate and model commitment to SeniorLAW Center’s mission and values.
  • Participate in SeniorLAW Center’s culture of philanthropy and events to support the organization.
  • Assist with quality control and case management data collection and reporting, as necessary.
  • Other responsibilities to further mission of the project and organization.
