Key responsibilities include completing patient check-in/out, assisting with scheduling, making appointments and referrals, greeting patients courteously, documenting phone messages, obtaining and updating registration and insurance information, maintaining electronic medical records, communicating necessary information, securing and scanning patient medical records, collecting co-payments, posting balances, processing payments, preparing bank deposits, balancing cash drawer, processing interoffice mail and faxes, entering drug samples, maintaining educational and office supplies, assisting other departments, attending staff meetings, and using computer systems for various tasks. The role also involves training on referral and authorization processes, initiating requests to insurance carriers for authorization, providing documentation of authorization, counseling patients on referral requirements, and maintaining a positive attitude towards all stakeholders. Compliance with hospital and department policies is essential, and the representative is expected to notify management of workload changes and resolve challenging situations.
