Job Summary: Location: Methodist Hospital Address: 8303 Dodge St, Omaha, NE Work Schedule: Mon - Fri 7:30am to 4:00pm Coordinate efforts to address and/or document patient safety related incidents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
  • Must have effective written & verbal communication skills.
  • Must type 50 WPM on a computer keyboard.
  • Proficiency with various computer software, such as Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of mathematical calculations and medical terminology.
  • Ability to work alone with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize according to deadlines.
  • Ability to perform numerous tasks at one time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in healthcare directly with physicians and other providers preferred.
  • Knowledge of patient safety regulations and standards preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records and documentation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures capture, review and classification of known patient safety variances for appropriate response.
  • Ensures entry of variance specifics and/or investigation in an effort to analyze actions and/or discern trends to reduce future occurrences.
  • Provides information on occurrences with unanticipated clinical results to administration and legal counsel.
  • Collaborates with legal and 3rd party insurers in critical thinking to find resolution(s) to each incident.
  • Coordinates appropriate disclosure of serious events to patients and /or families according to policy.
  • Arranges and completes a root cause analysis of occurrence according to policy if severity warrants.
  • Collaborates with legal and 3rd party insurers to establish a plan for resolution of complaints/claims and settlement amounts.
  • Assists legal and 3rd party insurers in coordinating staff interviews, response to interrogatories, and staff deposition attendance.
  • Facilitates acquisition of evidence related to an occurrence as needed.
  • Coordinates reimbursement claims for lost and/or damaged personal items as appropriate.
  • Partners with supervisors to address patient concerns and ensure follow-up.
