About The Position

The Patient Accounting Specialist is responsible for working directly with insurance companies, patients and families to verify proper benefits eligibility on admission inquiries, collecting co-pays/deductibles from patients, assisting with establishing effective and timely payment plans with patients. This position requires individuals to have a thorough knowledge of claims, insurance/Medicare billing, and medical terminology in order to complete complex tasks in regards to posting remits and explanation of benefits from insurance companies. In addition, this individual will act as a liaison between patient, medical staff, insurance companies, and third parties by processing and ensuring payment of claims, and reviewing insurance reimbursements.

Requirements

High school graduation, or equivalent.
Two (2) years of insurance verification, billing, charge and payment posting experience in healthcare business office environment.
Knowledge of invoices and claims, insurance/Medicare billing, medical terminology, patient charts, coding audits, and federal, state and local rules and regulations regarding medical claims
Skilled in Microsoft software programs
Ability to compile data for use in reports, review database records, understand and carry out basic claims procedures.
