About The Position

The Patient Access Team Leader supports daily front-end hospital operations by overseeing registration, insurance verification, authorizations, and point-of-service collections to ensure compliance with hospital policies and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role serves as a resource for staff, communicates regulatory and process updates, monitors work queues, audits, and reports to ensure accurate documentation and billing, and partners closely with management on staffing, scheduling, performance feedback, and departmental goals. The Team Leader collaborates with clinical departments to support admissions, transfers, and discharges, performs service recovery, responds to operational issues, and supervises daily operations in the manager’s absence.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent level of training.
  • Two years practical experience in computer usage.
  • Seven years practical experience in registration, collections and insurance verifications preferred.
  • Experience in supervision of related roles.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Team Leaders acts as a resource to communicate changes in regulations in order to promote ongoing compliance.
  • Ensure Team Leaders assists with the coordination of internal auditing and monitoring programs of all related departments.
  • Ensure Team Leaders monitor cash collection and data collection on registration to ensure employees adhere to hospital guidelines, as observed by Manager and follows facility's guidelines for up front collections (i.e. co-pays, deductibles, self pay).
  • Ensure Team Leaders monitor work queue's on a daily basis.
  • Assists manager with staff scheduling and utilization reviews
  • Ensure Team Leaders effectively communicates with clinical departments in regards to admissions, transfers, and discharges and ensures collections of deposits and correct accommodation codes are entered in the system.
  • Performs service recovery on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensures Team Leaders monitor staff compliance of Patient Access processes and Federal, State and local laws and regulatory standards (i.e. ACHA, HIPPA, Medicare, Medicaid, EMTALA, COBRA, etc.)
  • Ensure Team Leaders monitor staff for proper account note documentation.
  • Team Leaders will monitor staff compliance in obtaining appropriate insurance authorizations or necessary financial clearances.
  • Ensures Team Leaders will review and correct the Audit report to ensure that all registrations have proper insurance documentation, correct insurance code, MSP and HIPPA properly done for accurate billing.
  • Ensure Team Leaders review and corrects the Daily Admission Report , to ensure that all admissions have been processed with the proper admitting physician.
  • Ensure Team Leaders will review the OVA Report and check that proper patient type are entered on all OVA admissions.
  • Assist manager with providing leadership of departmental goals and objectives.
  • Remains current and assist the manager to ensure all Patient Access registration functions, bed control, International, financial counselors and local laws and regulatory standards (i.e. ACHA,HIPPA, Medicare, Medicaid, EMTLA, COBRA, etc.) are adhere to.
  • Ensure Team Leaders responds to emergency situations, troubleshoot problems as they occur and adapt to changing workloads.
  • Provides Manager with input on the employee's performances in a timely manner.
  • Assists Team Leader in resolving staff conflicts when necessary.
  • Informs team of any departmental and/ or hospital news, updates, issues, requests, general situations, etc.B183
  • Provides the Managers with recommendations of disciplinary actions.
  • Works with Manager to review and approve vacation requests.
  • Reviews Kronos for accuracy.
  • Assigns tasks and responsibilities to employees.
  • Assists Manager with daily operations.
  • In absence of the Manger, supervises daily operations.
