As a Patient Registration - Customer Service Representative, the role involves helping patients check into the hospital in a fast-paced environment. The representative will be the primary point of contact for patient questions during registration, building trust by collecting information accurately and quickly, and listening with compassion to address fears, concerns, and questions. The ideal candidate is a confident multi-tasker, quick to learn technology, and proficient in typing and answering phones. No previous healthcare experience or knowledge is required, making this a perfect starting point for a healthcare career. Given it's a hospital/lab environment, the representative must be prepared to encounter illness and injuries. All necessary training will be provided. Prior to hire, candidates must be up to date on all vaccinations, pass a drug test, and pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Working on computers and answering phones to intake information in a busy environment.
  • Working across multiple screens, collecting details that must be input correctly between physician and nurse check-ins.
  • Typing as quickly as patients can talk and feeling comfortable working across multiple programs.
  • Working around clinicians who may interrupt the registration process for emergent clinical care.
  • Helping people who may be very ill or worried by listening carefully to ease their anxiety, asking follow-up questions, and building rapport in real time.
  • Assisting patients complete their registration in a fast-paced work environment, often on your feet.
  • Acquiring knowledge through training to handle variations in health plans and coverage while collecting patient and insurance information.
  • Working quickly and expecting the unexpected, as this is not a casual desk job.
