About The Position

As a Customer Service Representative (Patient Access Associate I), you will help patients check into the hospital, specifically in the fast-paced ER Department. This role involves being the primary point of contact for patient questions during registration, requiring accurate and quick information collection, as well as compassionate listening to address fears, concerns, and questions. To succeed, you need to be a confident multitasker, a fast learner with technology, and proficient in typing and answering phones. While previous healthcare experience is a plus, it is not required, as comprehensive training will be provided, making this an ideal entry point into a healthcare career. The role is in a hospital/lab environment, so you must be prepared to encounter illness and injuries. All candidates must be up to date on vaccinations, pass a drug test, and pass a background check before starting.

Responsibilities

  • Offer exceptional customer service skills in the ER Department, including greeting and receiving patients and visitors, and handling general inquiries.
  • Provide bedside registration needs within the ER, which involves handling payments and answering basic financial questions in a fast-paced area.
  • Be on your feet and move between areas, assisting patients throughout each shift.
  • Work on computers and answer phones to intake information in a busy environment, utilizing multiple screens to collect and accurately enter patient registration details.
  • Navigate interruptions from clinicians for urgent clinical care during the registration process.
  • Help people who may be very ill or worried by listening carefully to ease their anxiety, asking follow-up questions, and building rapport in real time.
  • Gather knowledge through training regarding variations in health plans and coverage while collecting patient and insurance information.
  • Work quickly and expect the unexpected, as this is not a desk job.
  • Assist with supporting associates on new procedures and duties, potentially involving work in other assigned areas of the hospital.
