The Part-Time Student Program is primarily designed to augment the Company’s regular full-time staff and is for students who work in parallel to their school schedule YEAR-ROUND.
Your Responsibilities
As a Factory Automation Part-Time Student for JD Power Systems located in Waterloo, IA, you will:
Learn about and apply knowledge in technologies for manufacturing execution systems, vision systems (part location and inspection), and other automation technology in a production environment
Opportunity to learn about and assist in programming Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs, Fanuc robots and CNC
Assist with continuous improvement factory automation projects that support safety, quality, or efficiency initiatives
Assist with Manufacturing Execution System setup and testing
Assist other factory automation engineers with support in troubleshooting shop floor issues
This position NOT available to students on immigration visas

Requirements

• Ideally you will be pursuing a degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or Data Science; others may apply
• Must be registered as a full-time student at a local accredited university
• Graduation date of December 2026 or later
• Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
• Work 16-20 hours/week during the academic year
• Work 35-40 hours/week during the summer semester
• Must be able to commute to the Waterloo, IA work location on a daily basis
• Knowledge of databases (SQL, DB2, Oracle)
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office

Nice To Haves

• Understanding network connectivity requirements for equipment
• Experience programming in multiple languages Python, Visual Basic, SQL
• Previous experience with Gen AI
• Knowledge of computer vision systems
