About The Position

The Community for Rigor (C4R) is an NIH-funded initiative, based out of the University of Pennsylvania, dedicated to strengthening scientific rigor and transparency in biomedical research. We develop educational materials, training resources, and community programs that help scientists design, conduct, and report more rigorous and reproducible studies. Are you looking for a part-time position that combines your scientific background with your love for digital media? This role is for a high‑energy and creative science communicator who can understand the needs and perspectives of other researchers. The Part-Time Social Media Associate will play a key role in igniting online conversations about scientific rigor, and in expanding C4R’s visibility and engagement across digital platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field of science and a minimum of two years of social media and science communication experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to "speak science," and generate and respond to content that is authentic and engaging for scientists and trainees.
  • Deep understanding of scientific and academic audiences; must be a scientist with a strong interest in social media and science communication.
  • Experience creating engaging scientific content for digital platforms.
  • Understanding of organic audience growth without paid advertising.
  • Strong interpersonal and interviewing skills, with the ability to put others at ease and capture authentic, engaging video content.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Foundational skills in video editing and motion graphics.
  • A knack for quickly learning new digital tools and technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • A proven record of exponential, organic social media channels growth.
  • Experience with Figma or other graphic design tools.
  • Familiarity with audience targeting and basic marketing concepts.
  • Awareness of SEO best practices and hashtag strategy.
  • Experience using social media analytics and performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Create, plan and publish daily content across multiple digital platforms; respond to comments and messages daily to foster engagement and community growth.
  • Grow C4R’s social media following organically and convert followers into active community members, including email list sign-ups.
  • Conduct video interviews and facilitate conversations with students, faculty, and subject‑matter experts, translating insights into compelling video narratives.
  • Travel to conferences—including the annual C4R Conference and the Society for Neuroscience —to create content and promote C4R’s participation.
  • Track and analyze engagement metrics to assess performance and inform content strategy.
  • Contribute ideas and support for promotional and outreach campaigns.
  • Identify and help us connect with new audiences and networks in creative ways.
  • Other related duties and special projects may be assigned as needed to support C4R’s goals.
