About The Position

American Wheatley is a leading manufacturer of HVAC expansion tanks, hydronic accessories, and custom pressure vessels, proudly based in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. We deliver high-quality, American-made solutions to customers nationwide and are looking for a detail-oriented purchasing professional to join our team on a part-time basis. We are seeking a Part-Time Purchasing Assistant to support our procurement operations. This role is ideal for an up-and-coming purchasing professional with some hands-on experience who is eager to learn, grow, and contribute in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The position offers 20–25 hours per week with flexible scheduling (primarily Monday–Friday during business hours). No degree required – we are willing to train the right candidate.

Requirements

• Minimum 2–3 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (required).
• Proven ability to read blueprints, BOMs, and technical specifications is a strong plus.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Epicor, SAP, NetSuite, or similar) – we will train on our system.
• Strong Excel skills and comfort with data analysis (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with vendors and internal stakeholders.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in metal fabrication, HVAC, or pressure vessel industries.
• APICS/CPM certification or coursework.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 or ASME standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist in sourcing, quoting, and purchasing raw materials, components, and MRO supplies in accordance with production schedules and inventory levels.
• Issue purchase orders, track deliveries, and resolve supplier discrepancies (pricing, quality, lead times).
• Maintain accurate purchasing records in our ERP system (e.g., PO status, vendor performance, cost data).
• Collaborate with production, engineering, and accounting teams to ensure material availability and cost efficiency.
• Support vendor qualification, negotiation, and relationship management.
• Monitor inventory levels and assist with cycle counts or stock replenishment planning.
• Handle expediting of critical orders and freight coordination as needed.
