About The Position

National University holds accreditation through the Western Senior College and Universities Commission (WSCUC). This is a hybrid (onsite and online) position based in San Diego, CA. Position Summary The Department of Arts and Humanities in the School of Arts, Letters, and Sciences at National University invites applications for part-time faculty in English with a specialization in rhetoric/composition. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of, or potential for excellence in, the following: teaching in their field, a commitment to serving the University’s diverse adult student body, and related scholarship and/or research. Primary duties include teaching beginning and advanced undergraduate composition and may also include teaching classes on information literacy. This position works closely with the Academic Program Director and other faculty within the program, and contributes to ensuring program quality, and student engagement and success.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in the field of English, rhetoric/composition, or related field from a regionally accredited university required.
  • Two years of higher education teaching experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide substantive, timely feedback to students on various assessment activities.
  • Maintain a positive, safe, inclusive student-centric learning environment.
  • Complete required tasks on deadlines (e.g., final grades, assessment, grading rubrics, input for grade appeals, etc.)
  • Maintain appropriate professional training and/or scholarly activities, when applicable.
  • Provide feedback to the course lead regarding the course content.
  • Identify at-risk students and collaborate with student services.
