About The Position

The Part-Time Accountant performs specialized accounting and financial reporting work in support of the City’s financial operations. This position is responsible for processing transactions, reconciling accounts, managing leases, and ensuring compliance with applicable Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements. The role requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, punctuality, reliability, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within established municipal policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardizations exist.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Proficiency in Tyler Munis or other ERP/accounting software.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Ability to apply accounting and bookkeeping practices with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Advanced competency in the utilization of Microsoft Office, Excel for analysis and control functions.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and accountability in all assigned duties.
  • Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of accounting experience, preferably in a governmental or public sector environment.
  • Working knowledge of GASB standards, particularly GASB 87 and 96 or willingness to learn.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of municipal accounting procedures preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review, reconcile, and post monthly fuel and oil usage to appropriate departments and accounts.
  • Process and maintain accounting records for proprietary fund work orders, ensuring proper allocation and documentation.
  • Manage and maintain lease and subscription-based IT arrangements in accordance with GASB 87 (Leases) and GASB 96 (SBITAs).
  • Perform regular reconciliations for property tax and property tax relief vouchers to ensure data integrity and accuracy across systems.
  • Process journal entries into the Munis Tyler accounting system, ensuring documentation is attached and journal is released for approvals by Accounting Manager/Sr. Staff Accountant.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems for upper management and audit readiness.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, schedules, and documentation for audits and annual financial statements.
  • Provide accounting support as needed, including assisting with special projects, reconciliations, and departmental tasks.
  • Consistently arrive on time, meet deadlines, and demonstrate dependable attendance to support daily operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
