About The Position

Provides assistance to the Parks & Recreations team in executing various projects that support environmental education and recreational programming for the San Antonio River Authority. The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Safety is #1 at the River Authority: We expect every employee: to 1) Strictly follow safety policies, rules, and safe work methods. 2) Promptly correct or report safety hazards or unsafe conditions. Immediately report injuries for prompt diagnosis and treatment. 3) Make regular suggestions for safety process improvements to support continuous safety improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. with at least 60 semesters from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in Recreation, Education, Natural Sciences, or any other field related to the mission and purpose of the River Authority.
  • Knowledge of water-based/outdoor recreation
  • Knowledge of community enrichment programs and event planning
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate activities for children
  • Knowledge of local history, culture, and ecosystems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Swimming, paddling, bicycling, and hiking abilities
  • Public speaking
  • Organization, time management and exercise initiative.
  • Oral and written communication
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Responsibilities

  • Supports staff in conducting outdoor educational tours with a focus on birding, ethnobotany, and other nature-based experiences.
  • Assists the team in responding to inquiries and providing relevant materials, when requested.
  • Provides support for San Antonio River Authority events and tours.
  • Assists with meetings, loads/ unloads materials, sets up and breaks down at events, organizes materials and enforces safety considerations at recreation events.
  • Demonstrates willingness to learn, speak, present, and educate groups and community members about the San Antonio River Basin and the agency’s projects and programs.
  • Represents the River Authority in a professional manner to promote its mission and vision.
  • Is consistently punctual, reliable, and communicative of challenges, feedback, and opinions.
  • Performs related work as required.
