"Tom" Sawyer State Park is currently seeking to hire a full time Parks Program Services Leader. The Parks Program Services Leader provides a key role in the State Park experience. This Rec Leader plans, organizes, conducts, and promotes interpretive and recreational programs to inform the public of the natural history, cultural, and recreational features of the state park. This position works with the Parks Program Services Supervisor to meet the expectations of visitors with a variety of motivations and ensure memorable experiences for all! This is a full-time position. Requirements

  • EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation, outdoor recreation, park resource interpretation, physical education, history, environmental education, biology, forestry, botany, zoology, anthropology, archaeology, area studies, cultural studies, art history, geography, parks and recreation management or administration, sociology, paleoanthropology or a closely related field.
  • EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
  • Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
  • Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Related experience as a park naturalist, park interpreter, environmental educator, conservation educator, or in planned outdoor recreation or physical education, recreation, park resource interpretation, history, environmental education, biology, forestry, botany, zoology, anthropology, archaeology, area studies, cultural studies, art history, geography, parks and recreation management or administration, sociology, paleoanthropology or a closely related field will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Leads recreational and interpretive programs. This includes, but is not limited to, archery lessons, guided hikes, field trips, camps, pool usage, and sports in the gym and outdoor courts.
  • Maintain recreational facilities including playgrounds, community gardens, multi-use trails, tennis and pickleball courts, recreation building, gym, and swimming pool.
  • Meets budget expectations through fee-based programs and the renting of park resources to a variety of user groups.
  • Maintains public relations through Rec Department phone and email.
  • Promotes programs with the design of onsite flyers and social media announcements.
  • Supervises seasonal and temporary Rec Department staff and volunteers.
