About The Position

The Parks Maintenance Technician I performs general upkeep and cleaning of park facilities, public rights-of-way, and medians. This role involves comprehensive landscape maintenance, including irrigation system management (drip systems), mowing, watering, pruning, and weed control, as well as facility and equipment repairs. The technician is responsible for operating a variety of motorized equipment, hand tools, and power tools. During the off-season, key duties include snow removal for various city facilities and the repair and maintenance of parks and playground equipment. This position may also involve directing the daily work of seasonal employees.

Requirements

High school diploma.
One (1) year ground maintenance experience.
Possess a valid Colorado driver's license and a good driving record.
Knowledge and experience in the use of operating hand and power tools, light trucks, and tractors used in park/athletic field maintenance.
Knowledge and experience in the upkeep and maintenance of parks, including landscaping knowledge and sprinkler systems.
Basic math skills necessary to lay out soccer/football fields and base placement for baseball/softball at athletic facilities.
Ability to solve a variety of problems in situations with diversified procedures, specialized standards, and limited standardization, and make decisions to achieve job results while adhering to specified standards.
Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities.
Collaboration skills, including the ability to work with others from different areas and backgrounds to reach a common goal.

Responsibilities

Perform general upkeep and cleaning of park facilities, public rights-of-way, and medians.
Perform landscape maintenance, including irrigation maintenance (drip systems), mowing, watering, pruning, and weed control.
Install, repair, and maintain irrigation equipment.
Install, repair, and maintain various types of playground equipment.
Install, repair, and maintain other park-related equipment, including lighting and security cameras.
Set up and tear down event-specific equipment and facilities.
Perform maintenance and safety inspections of park facilities.
Operate and perform minor maintenance on power equipment used in park maintenance.
Safely apply pesticides, weed killer, and other chemical agents, using PPE and following Material Safety Data Sheets.
Maintain supplies and equipment for ball fields and surrounding facilities.
Perform snow removal for various city facilities during the off-season.
Repair and maintain parks and playground equipment.
Direct the daily work of seasonal employees.
