About The Position

Under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director, assists in operational management by managing staff, daily operations and project management. Coordinates assigned activities with other departments, vendors, outside agencies and the public; partners with the Director in the creation and monitoring of Parks and Recreation budgets, purchasing and accounts receivable and provides staff assistance to the Director of Parks and Recreation for maintenance, purchasing and operational upgrades. Serves as Director of Parks and Recreation in the absence of the Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in parks and recreation administration, landscape architecture or a related field
  • two years of progressively more responsible experience in parks maintenance including experience with an aquatic facility
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s license
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR
  • Knowledge of the professional public management techniques involved in resource management, and the ability to identify and implement new best practices
  • Strong working knowledge of the equipment, methods, procedures, and tasks involved in park and facility construction, maintenance, and repair
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, and equipment utilized in grounds, park maintenance, and development, including the planting, cultivation, pruning and care of lawns, flowers, shrubs, plants, and trees
  • Knowledge of the practices and safety issues involved in maintaining public lands, facilities, and playground equipment
  • Skill in organizing schedules and coordinating associated resources
  • Ability to effectively train others and assign, coordinate, and evaluate the work of staff
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with County employees, contractors to the County, representatives of other governmental units, professional contacts, elected officials, and the public
  • Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including Microsoft Suite applications and specialized parks and recreation database software
