About The Position

This position provides safe, aesthetically pleasing, high quality, well-maintained athletic/sports fields, infrastructure, facilities and grounds in parks. This is an office-oriented position with field inspection requirements. This is a regular full time supervisor position with all of the benefits year-round employment with the City. This supervisor and the teams under the supervision of this position are focused on excellence in customer service through outstanding janitorial/facility maintenance of park restrooms and shelters, softball and baseball field management/preparation for practices league games and tournaments, and sports field management/preparation of grass and synthetic fields for practices, games and tournaments. This position will lead and manage special event logistics planning and reservations for all outdoor facilities and fields within the Rec Trac software program. The salary range for this position is $75,871- $110,013 per year with a hiring range of $75,871- $92,942 , depending on qualifications and experience. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Parks Administration or a related field.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in park maintenance and operations including equipment operation, turf maintenance, irrigation design and maintenance, water resource management, pump station repair, computer knowledge, plant identification, turf care, electrical trouble shooting, budget writing, report writing, employee evaluations, training staff, performing safety inspections, writing work projections, staff development, performing accident investigations, installing plant material, basic landscape design, project cost estimating and project management required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must possess or obtain Confined Space Entry Certification and CPR Certification within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise employees and to plan, schedule and coordinate projects, activities, and special event logistics.
  • Knowledge of turf, sports field, and synthetic turf management practices.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and orally using telephones, computers and two-way radio systems.
  • Prepare employee performance evaluations, project cost estimates, schedules and special reports, reconcile expenditures and track budgets using math principles.
  • Knowledge of Colorado water law and raw water irrigation system operations.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to effectively manage projects and service contracts related to park infrastructure maintenance, repair, and replacement.
  • Walk throughout facility grounds of various topographical conditions and identify needed work and inspect work results.

Nice To Haves

  • Some t raining in horticulture and urban forestry preferred.
  • Understanding of the Rec Trac software system preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe, clean and well-maintained athletic fields (natural and synthetic turf), playgrounds/water features, play courts, shelters and facilities, site furnishings, signs and structures through effective management of field staff, training and monitoring for compliance, and directing maintenance work, inspections and site restoration and repair procedures.
  • Contribute to the completion of maintenance tasks through the safe and proper use of various types of tools and equipment and by spot problem solving and troubleshooting.
  • Management of service and construction contracts, such as security, portable restrooms, field renovations, irrigation, and depreciation related projects.
  • Leads a team of staff who manage multiple events in public parks and sports fields throughout the calendar year.
  • Efficient and effective use of resources through staff development, planning, scheduling and directing work units, purchasing and allocating equipment, materials and resources, and developing loss control strategies.
  • Provide improvements to policies, procedures, and resources by identifying needs, recommending new systems, methods and equipment, and by making budget requests.
  • Respond to change and special needs to resolve conflicts with others independently.
  • Communicate information to the public and for internal documenting, reporting, and planning by maintaining, monitoring, and updating records and by responding to requests in a complete and timely manner.
  • Provide excellence in customer service in all areas.
  • Report problems/situations that impact other individuals/sections by directing information to the appropriate person.
  • Maintain communication and relationships with the public, special interest groups and City staff .
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees: planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Development of park policies & procedures in cooperation with the Parks Manager.
  • Serves as Department representative on City and Community Committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
