About The Position

The Parking Enforcement Officer is responsible for promoting local business, public safety, and quality of life by patrolling an assigned beat to monitor, regulate, and control parking. This role involves providing excellent customer service to residents and guests, advocating goodwill for the City of Virginia Beach, and maintaining a professional, empathetic, and composed demeanor. The officer will demonstrate knowledge of parking ordinances, options, rates, and Oceanfront events and amenities to assist the public. They will use technology to monitor compliance and enforce parking regulations at various locations, including meters, residential streets, and pay-station controlled parking lots. The position also involves educating guests on parking meter operations, providing directions, promoting public safety by being aware of hazards and suspicious activity, researching field guides for enforcement tasks, and providing competent court testimony for contested citations. Daily tasks include safely operating and maintaining a company vehicle, using email for communication, and organizing equipment and supplies.

  • A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE IS REQUIRED

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned beat to monitor, regulate, and control parking
  • Advocate good will for the City of Virginia Beach by providing excellent customer service to residents and guests
  • Demonstrate knowledge of parking ordinances, parking options and rates, and Oceanfront events and amenities to assist guests and residents
  • Create a positive image of the City of Virginia Beach by maintaining a professional, empathetic, and composed demeanor when interacting with guests and residents
  • Use technology to monitor compliance of city parking ordinances and enforce parking regulations at meters, residential streets, and pay-station controlled parking lots
  • Practice active listening techniques and excellent customer service skills when engaging with guests, residents, associates and managers
  • Demonstrate knowledge of parking rules and regulations when addressing guest questions and concerns
  • Guide guests in the selection of parking options by demonstrating knowledge of street, lot, and garage locations and rates
  • Assist with and educate guests on the operation of each type of parking meter
  • Exhibit familiarity of Oceanfront events and amenities and be able to provide general directions
  • Promote public and resident safety by maintaining a state of awareness of physical hazards and suspicious activity
  • Research field guide to ensure correct performance of enforcement tasks
  • Provide competent court testimony for contested citations
  • Safely operate and maintain company vehicle
