About The Position

Serves as Paralegal and primary point of contact to the Office of General Counsel (OGC), managing communications with internal clients across the Dartmouth Health System and triaging legal issues to the appropriate internal and external counsel. The Paralegal independently provides high-level support to the attorneys for various tasks in the form of preparing, reviewing, and managing contracts and assisting with processing legal invoices.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Paralegal, Certificate in Paralegal Studies, or a Bachelor’s Degree with a Paralegal minor/major, with a minimum of 5 years of previous experience working in a healthcare organization in a legal capacity preferred.
  • Coursework in legal assisting or paralegal essential, with knowledge of legal terminology, legal research and filing methods and procedures required.
  • Must be a professional with well developed, clear, verbal and written communication skills, and possess the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups including top level administrators, officials, and Board members.
  • Must have highly developed computer skills, independent judgment and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have ability to work well under pressure, be flexible, and be self-directed. Must possess ability to exercise analytical and independent judgment when performing assigned functions.
  • Must have ability to appropriately and effectively manage and complete multiple priorities by established deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Deputy General Counsel in monitoring and tracking significant legal matters.
  • Coordinates and manages the OGC’s centralized contract management process:
  • Evaluates and responds to contract requests and assists with assigning projects to legal counsel.
  • Educates D-H departments on the contract review process.
  • Monitors timely completion of contract review, drafting and negotiations.
  • Ensures office project tracking system and outside counsel tracking system operate efficiently.
  • Drafts contracts including but not limited to educational affiliation agreements, intern agreements, professional services agreements, statements of work, administrative services agreements, consulting agreements, amendments, non-disclosure agreements, and business associate agreements.
  • Reviews contracts and other documents for accuracy, compliance with the established standard contracting requirements and provisions. Compares existing contracts with amended versions to audit changes.
  • Collaborates with internal clients to review business terms of contracts.
  • Serves as the liaison between internal clients and external legal counsel to ensure efficient communication and case management.
  • Manages the submission and processing of all legal invoices through the Accounts Payable Department.
  • Participates in various committees and meetings involving the Office of General Counsel as needed, and assists with establishing guidelines and policies.
  • Assists with tradename filings and renewals.
  • Follows established rules and procedures in responding to requests and redirecting items to other staff members.
  • Utilizes time management techniques to organize and prioritize work.
  • Maintains cooperative working relationships.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
