About The Position

The Insurance Recovery & Bad Faith Paralegal Manager provides senior-level litigation support and operational leadership for complex insurance recovery and bad faith matters. This role oversees and manages the paralegal and case assistant team supporting the practice, ensuring consistency, efficiency, compliance, and high-quality legal support from case intake through resolution. Working closely with Insurance Recovery & Bad Faith leadership, this position combines hands-on litigation expertise with people management, workflow oversight, and process improvement. This is a hybrid role based out of our Sacramento or San Diego office.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7+ years of law firm experience, with significant experience in insurance recovery, bad faith, or complex litigation.
  • Prior experience managing or supervising paralegals and/or litigation support staff required.
  • Strong knowledge of litigation lifecycle from intake through resolution.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a professional, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, document management systems, and litigation technology platforms.
  • Ability to support teams operating in Pacific and Mountain time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary managerial lead for the paralegal and case assistant team supporting Insurance Recovery & Bad Faith matters.
  • Oversee paralegal workflow, staffing, and workload distribution across complex, large-scale litigation matters.
  • Partner closely with the Practice Group Administrator and attorneys to ensure cases move efficiently through all stages of litigation.
  • Establish, enforce, and continually improve paralegal processes, standards, and best practices.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on insurance recovery and bad faith litigation procedures and requirements.
  • Support strategic litigation execution through strong organization, compliance, and operational leadership.
  • Directly manage, mentor, and supervise paralegals and case assistants, including workload assignments, prioritization, and performance oversight.
  • Conduct onboarding, training, coaching, and ongoing professional development for the paralegal team.
  • Oversee preparation for depositions, document productions, mediations, hearings, and trial support.
  • Ensure accurate maintenance, auditing, and organization of electronic and physical case files.
  • Monitor key litigation deadlines, filings, and compliance with applicable rules of civil procedure.
  • Review and assist with drafting, compiling, and finalizing pleadings, discovery responses, subpoenas, and correspondence.
  • Partner with leadership to identify staffing needs, workflow gaps, and efficiency opportunities.
  • Maintain oversight of litigation support vendors, document databases, and legal technology tools.
  • Support and maintain Filevine workflows, templates, and reporting as needed.
  • Assist with budgeting support, vendor invoices, and coordination of litigation resources.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for complex paralegal or case-related issues.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, staff, courts, clients, and opposing counsel to support case progression.
